Beating the Heat: Your Ultimate Guide to Seoul’s Hangang Outdoor Swimming Pools in 2026

If you’ve been stepping outside lately, you already know: we are officially being cooked by the Korean summer. The humidity is rising, the sun is blazing, and your AC bill is probably throwing you side-eyes. But don't panic! You don't need a luxury hotel budget to cool off. Seoul’s legendary Hangang River Outdoor Swimming Pools and Water Playgrounds are officially open for the 2026 season. They are hands-down the most affordable, fun, and scenic ways to survive the summer heat with your friends. Before we dive into the details, here is a quick tip for those of you who just arrived or are planning your stay: if you’re a foreign student, a mid to long term traveler or just on a business trip looking for safe, reliable, and convenient short-to-mid-term housing in Korea, look no further than the Momstay app. It’s a platform specifically dedicated to helping foreigners find accommodation without the usual housing headaches.

Now, grab your sunscreen, and let’s look at where you need to go!

⚠️ Major Warnings for 2026: Look Before You Leap! Before you pack your bags and head out, please note that not all pools are operating this year.

  • Jamwon Swimming Pool is CLOSED for the 2026–2027 seasons. It is undergoing a massive transformation into a nature-friendly "Jamwon Beach" eco-pool.
  • Mangwon Swimming Pool is also CLOSED this year due to ongoing construction at the northern end of the Seongsan Bridge.
  • Make sure you don't accidentally show up to these two! Instead, head over to one of the six amazing locations listed below.

    🗓️ 2026 Operating Schedule & Hours

The pools are open every single day from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, August 30, 2026. Standard Daytime Hours

  • 09:00 AM – 06:00 PM (All locations) 🌃 The 2026 Gamechanger: Night Swimming!
  • To combat the extreme heatwaves this year, Seoul is offering Night Swimming for 59 days from July 3 to August 30.

  • Open until 10:00 PM (09:00 AM – 10:00 PM): Ttukseom, Yeouido, Jamsil, and Nanji.
  • Closes at 06:00 PM: Gwangnaru and Yanghwa.
  • You might not be used to it but beware of the Daily Break Times (Strictly Enforced)

  • Hourly Break: The pools clear out for 15 minutes every hour (usually at the 45-minute mark) for water purification and safety checks.
  • Lunch Break: 12:00 PM – 01:00 PM (No swimming allowed).
  • Dinner Break (Night Pools Only): 06:00 PM – 07:00 PM (No swimming allowed).
  • Note: Water activities wrap up 30 minutes before final closing time.

📍 The 6 Hangang Pools: Where to Go & How to Get There

Admission is unbelievably cheap. Swimming Pools cost 5,000 KRW for adults, while Water Play Areas (which are slightly shallower but just as refreshing) cost only 3,000 KRW.

    1. Ttukseom Swimming Pool (Best Layout & Accessibility)

  • Vibe: This is the heavyweight champion of Hangang pools. It features a fantastic lazy river (유수풀) where you can float in circles, a 4-meter-high aqua ring, and massive sunbed zones.
  • Address: 112 Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul
  • How to Go: Take Subway Line 7 to Jayang Station (formerly Ttukseom Park Station), Exit 2. The entrance is literally a 1-minute walk away.
  • 2. Jamsil Water Play Area (Best Modern View)

  • Vibe: Recently remodeled into a gorgeous, nature-friendly paradise. It features a modern layout with a shallow infinity-edge pool that looks right over the Han River. It offers the absolute best view of the Lotte World Tower and is magical during the night-swimming hours.
  • Address: 1-1 Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul
  • How to Go: Subway Line 2, Jamsil Saenae Station, Exit 5 or 6. Walk about 15 minutes through the park toward the river.
  • 3. Yeouido Swimming Pool (The Classic Hangang Experience)

  • Vibe: Huge, traditional, and full of energy. It has great water slides and a classic water-park feel. It gets very lively with university students and tourists alike.
  • Address: 82-9 Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul
  • How to Go: Subway Line 9, National Assembly Station, Exit 1 (10–15 min walk) or Line 5, Yeouinaru Station, Exit 2 (15 min walk).
  • 4. Nanji Water Play Area (The Sunset Spot)

  • Vibe: Designed to blend seamlessly with the Han River to create a beautiful infinity pool illusion. It’s a bit more relaxed and hosts the "Hangang Music Pondang" water concerts this summer. The sunsets here are unmatched.
  • Address: 482-454 Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul
  • How to Go: Subway Line 6, World Cup Stadium Station, Exit 1. It is a very long walk, so taking a short taxi ride or a bus (like 9711A) from the station to Nanji Hangang Park is highly recommended.
  • 5. Gwangnaru Water Play Area (The Hidden Gem)

  • Vibe: Newly upgraded as a natural water playground for 2026! It’s tucked away, surrounded by greenery, and feels a lot cozier and less chaotic than Ttukseom or Yeouido. (Closes at 6 PM!)
  • Address: 127-6 Cheonho-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul
  • How to Go: Subway Line 5 or 8, Cheonho Station, Exit 1. Walk about 15–20 minutes toward the park.
  • 6. Yanghwa Water Play Area (Chill & Eco-Friendly)

  • Vibe: A smaller, nature-focused water playground with a stunning view of Seonyudo Park. If you just want to dip your feet, read a book, and avoid massive crowds, this is your spot. (Closes at 6 PM!)
  • Address: 1-4 Yanghwa-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul
  • How to Go: Subway Line 2 or 9, Dangsan Station, Exit 4. Walk about 15 minutes along the Han River walking trail.
  • 🧢 Crucial Pool Rules & Comfort Tips

To ensure you don’t get stopped at the gate, keep these strict regulations in mind:

  • The Cap Rule is Mandatory: You cannot enter the water without a head covering. The great news? It does not have to be a dorky silicone swim cap! A standard baseball cap, bucket hat, or snapback is completely allowed as long as it covers your hair.
  • Seating & Comfort: Every pool has massive, free blue shade canopies. You must bring your own picnic mat (돗자리) to claim a spot on the ground! If you want a plastic sunbed, you can rent one on-site for around 10,000 KRW.
  • On-Site Facilities: You will find free (but basic) changing rooms and outdoor open showers. Note: You cannot use soap, shampoo, or body wash in the outdoor showers to protect the Han River ecosystem—just rinse off with cold water!
  • Food & Drinks: There are 24/7 convenience stores and food stalls on-site selling iconic Han River instant ramen, tteokbokki, fried chicken, ice cups, and coffee.
  • What NOT to Bring: Alcohol is strictly prohibited. You are also banned from bringing sharp objects (like knives—so cut your fruit at home before coming!), snorkels, fins, or massive oversized tubes.
  • 💡 Blogger Pro-Tips for Timing

If you want a daytime tan: Arrive by 08:30 AM. Lines form before the 9:00 AM opening, and if you aren't early, all the prime shaded spots under the canopies will be taken. The best overall experience: Skip the scorching midday sun entirely and go for Night Swimming (06:00 PM – 10:00 PM) at Ttukseom or Jamsil. The water is cool, the city lights turn on, you escape the UV rays, and the vibe turns incredibly romantic and relaxing.
